Mommyhood

Being a mother was never something I felt like I needed, to feel “fulfilled” in my life. I didn’t desire it like most women my age do, but I never said I would never have kids.

When I found out I was pregnant, so many emotions came over me. I was so excited, because I love a good adventure. I was so nervous, I didn’t know how I was going to balance work and being a mom. I was also scared, was I even cut out to be a good mom?

I’ve learned that I was cut out exactly to be Evelyn’s mommy. I don’t know if I could be a good mom to ANY kid, but I will always work my hardest to be the best mom to Evelyn. Balance is something I’m still struggling with. Before Evelyn was here, my business was my baby. Let’s be honest, they both pretty much require the exact same thing; blood, sweat, tears and time. Lots of time. However, Evelyn has made it easier to see how life should be prioritized. Lastly, Evelyn has by far been the best adventure ever. My husband and I love to travel, try new things, and challenge ourselves. Evelyn has definitely hit all those marks, plus some. It’s brought our marriage to a whole new level of partnership and gratitude towards one another.

I’m not here to claim that motherhood has been nothing but rainbows and unicorn poops. To be honest, those moments can be few and far between occasionally. We’ve dealt with sleep deprivation at an unheard of level, acid reflux did a number on us, and there is the occasional diaper explosion that happens can bring one to tears or laughter (or both at the same time).

But life has never looked so sweet and promising. Evelyn has made the simplistic parts of life blissful and exciting again.

Never have I ever spent 2 hours watching someone else look at a bright light and felt complete content in that. Motherhood is actually…kind of amazing.

Having the baby around has inspired some new products! This is our newest name cutout round sign. Love the use of the negative space to spell out the name! Order one here, they make great gifts for baby showers!

Pregnancy Announcement Photo Shoot

We’ve recently added some new products to our shop lately! One of my favorite items is our name sign!

A lot of people asked why Drew and I picked the name Evelyn for our daughter. It goes back a long time actually! The first real date Drew and I went on was to see Pearl Harbor in the movie theaters. That’s back in 2001 people!

Whenever that movie is on TV, we always stop to watch it. One day (more than a few years back) we realized we loved the main character’s name, Evelyn. Not really sure why, but we just liked it. If you look back at some of our hanger examples, I often use the name Evelyn on them.

Fast forward a few years and my dad was sick in the hospital. We knew he wasn’t going to make it and so we had some tough decisions. I don’t know what came over me, but I told him, since I knew he would never see it, that one day I would have a little girl and I would name her Evelyn.

The day we were going to find out the sex of our baby, I told Drew that if it was a girl, it would be my dad in heaven making sure I kept my promise to him. Drew had been convinced it was a girl since I told him I was pregnant. Sure enough, it was a girl!

We were able to work with the amazing For Love & Light Photography to capture our announcement picture and they turned out epic! I hand wrote Evelyn’s name and we cut it as a large sign to hold, announcing our little girl’s name!

Since then, we’ve received so many inquires for these signs, and we now have a listing to purchase one. We’ve seen them used in stores, nurseries, props for photo shoots, weddings, and more! It’s been so fun to see how others are using them.

If you want to order a name sign, feel free to check out our shop here!

Update

Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve been around these parts lately.

If I’m being real, it’s been hard coming to a decision on what to do about this blog. With Instagram and all of the newest forms of social media, it just became too much to keep up on and I wasn’t sure blogging was relevant anymore.

However, I enjoyed blogging. I enjoyed the connections it gave me, being able to be a bit more personal, and not worrying about hashtags!

So, I guess I am back. There is a lot to update on, lots of news to share both personally and with the business.

What direction is the blog going to take? I don’t know. I hope anyone who reads this is willing to maybe let it take us organically where it needs to go. I have a drive to share more about my business behind the scenes and maybe put out some information that might help others with their businesses. I also enjoy sharing about my personal life, this is a website for my business but I am just as much a part of this business as this business is part of me. Knowing about my personal life, might help others to understand why I’ve taken the business into directions I’ve taken it. Lastly, I love this as a place to showcase some of the work we’ve done. I’m proud of the amazing collaborations we’ve been a part of and new ideas we’ve come up with.

I hope some of you are interested, and maybe even a little excited, on where this and my business are going! Lots of stuff is going on that I’m so excited to share with everyone! Including the newest addition to our Delovely Details family, our daughter!

Yours,

Nicole & Drew

Martha Stewart Real Weddings – Sophia & Joel

We love working with Bash, Please! and we were so excited to be able to work with them on this stunning wedding which was recently featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine. The whole experience was such a privilege and we are so happy for the bride and groom who may look familiar to you. We provided stir sticks for non other than Sophia Amoruso, epic #Girlboss and owner of Nastygal and her musician husband, Joel Jarek Degraff. We’ve been on cloud nine since the whole event.

Parisian Photo Session

I am a very lucky girl. My husband and I celebrated 7 years of marriage in July 2014. 7 years! I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by. On our anniversary, I got to open my card from him, and he really hit it out of the park this year as far as anniversary presents go.

Our trip to Paris had been in the books for a couple months already and I kept telling him that was all I wanted. When I opened my card, I had learned that we had a private photo session in front of the Eiffel Tower planned for our stay in Paris. We had the best of the best taking our pictures for us too! Brian from French Grey Photography, is the kind of person you dream of working with. He is, for lack of a better word, genius.

These are by far, my most favorite souvenirs I’ve ever brought home from any trip.  The hubs has set the bar really high for himself, can’t wait to see how he tackles 8 years!

These are just a few of the many uh-mazing pictures we got from our session. We got to the tower bright and early and had the whole area to ourselves for the most part. To say it was “magical” is an extreme understatement.

The entire session, I just kept saying “oh my gosh, I can’t believe we are doing this!”

After the tower, Brian took us to this quaint area that felt very “french”. I mean, I didn’t travel across the world to get pictures of us that weren’t “french” looking, right?

By then, it was time for a costume change for me. I changed into something a little more comfortable and sat down for a minute with a cup of espresso and hot chocolate.

After our snack, we decided to walk around the neighborhood and found some more stunning locations to have fun in. It’s not that hard in Paris though to find beautiful photogenic locations to be honest.

When our session was over, I was so sad. We had a blast with Brian and he made us feel so comfortable. I am so lucky to be able to travel the way my husband and I do; but to have these gorgeous pictures taken as well, on a dream trip of mine, well that’s just icing.

If you are going to Paris, I can’t recommend Brian at French Grey Photography enough. These are by far the best kind of souvenirs. Forget the Eiffel Tower lighter and the cheesy beret, spend a little money and capture some memories instead.
